Seriously, even candy bars cost more these days. Why would so many brilliant, successful authors offer their work for a pittance?
Two Reasons
Reason one: By collaborating on a project like this, every author gains new readers. When I list the other authors in this project, you'll understand why I am so overjoyed to get my work in front of their readers. Our readers love suspense and thrillers, crime and tension, but they tend to be put off by gore, profanity, and sex scenes. Our readers prefer closed-door romance to fill in the blanks with their own imagination.
Reason two: By combining our readership, we can concentrate sales into the week before and after publication to work within Amazon's algorithm to spike the top of the bestseller categories for our work. When this works, and I've seen it work with other authors in collaboration, then all the authors--yes, even little old me--earn the bestseller title.
This is a huge, generous thing for these already successful authors to pull lesser-known authors up into visibility. I am enormously grateful for this opportunity.
How It Works
We ask all our readers to spread the word about this absolute bargain of great stories between now and the October 13 publication date. Sure, some will go to the pre-buy immediately. That's fine. It can help Amazon pay attention to the collection and possibly promote it.
Then, close to October 13, we ask our readers to splurge the 99 cents on it. When readers see how many others have already bought it, they are more inclined to buy it as well. I mean, 99 cents is not exactly risky spending...
